Rate and Write a Review Would you like to down a brewski at a bar that is ripe with history? Tobacco Road is Dade County's oldest saloon, having been awarded the first liquor license in the area's history. This legendary pub was a speakeasy during Prohibition, a hangout for Al Capone and his shady comrades during the '30s, and the target of many a police raid in the sinful '70s. Revitalized and revamped in 1982, this bar is now a favorite hangout for Sunshine State yuppies and hipsters. Tobacco Road's live music roster is legendary and specifically focused on jazz and R&B; acts that have played here include B.B. King, Koko Taylor, Junior Washington, Sugar Pie and August Campbell. Local acts hit the stage nightly. In addition to a fully stocked bar, Tobacco Road offers a night menu with several tasty choices. The Road Burger is a simple yet popular choice, with five ounces of choice sirloin grilled with your choice of Swiss or cheddar cheese. Want something a bit more complicated? The Death Burger comes topped with a spicy combo of jalapeno chiles, grilled onions and pepper jack cheese. There's even a low-fat Garden Burger, made with fresh veggies, grains, cheeses, nuts and spices. From cheese fries, spicy buffalo wings and conch fritters to leafy salads and vegetarian nachos, you won't go hungry as you're tipping back your cocktails. -- Rebecca Stropoli
